Links to other Prefab Sprout
Resources Look closely; the single on the left isn’t a Sprout single; it’s a single that inspired a Sprout song.
Faron Young, nicknamed “The Singing Sheriff,” had several hits including “Hello Walls” which in 1961 made it to No. 1 on the Country charts and broke the top 20 on the Pop charts. Other hits included “It’s Four in the Morning,” “Sweet Dreams,” “Live Fast, Love Hard, Die Young,” “Country Girl,” “I Miss You Already,” “Your Old ‘Used To Be’,” “Wine Me Up,” “Backtrack,” and “Goin’ Steady.”
He died on December 6, 1996, at age 64, of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
It was reported that he was depressed about health problems. He also had
problems with alcohol. He once said about his longevity, “My secret? Drink
expensive whiskey.” I wonder if he
ever heard the Prefab Sprout song that carried his name? (Similar to the album
“Steve McQueen” being retitled “Two Wheels Good” in the US, the track “Faron
Young” was retitled simply “Faron” on the US release.)

There are several other Sprout pages out there, each with a different piece of the puzzle.
·
Prefab Sprout’s
“official” site (DEAD LINK, and I haven’t had much luck getting to it
through archive.org)
This site was launched in late 1999. It was good for behind-the-scenes photos,
some video clips, a shop to buy Sprout stuff, and a somewhat difficult
discussion forum among other things. It also had a “news” section which was
sadly only OK at giving out breaking news. It typically provided only tidbits
every now and then. In the Fall of
2004, the site disappeared. Martin
has the ownership of the prefabsprout.com domain.
· SPROUTNET … A new fan site as of mid-2006 that shows a lot of enthusiasm. It also has an active message board.
· Fernando Higa’s site also known as “Life of Surprises.” A well-done site with interviews and articles not found elsewhere and which continues to improve. Includes a Spanish version of the site. John Birch’s collection of Sprout material (for sale) has been listed on this site. Also, Marshall Boswell’s web page of guitar tabs is now stored on this site.

A Prefab
Sprout discussion forum and Another Prefab Sprout
discussion forum.
Activity on these sites generally mirrors the activity of the band.
·
John Birch’s site
(DEAD LINK, but here
it is at Archive.org: )
Like me, John was an intense collector of Sprout stuff. John went so far as to
produce his own fanzine “Rollmo!” which was far better than anything
Kitchenware ever put out through the “official” Sprout fan club. In 1993 John
also self-produced a 122 page paperback book on the Sprouts, “Myths, Melodies
& Metaphysics: Paddy McAloon’s Prefab Sprout.”.
·
The Sprout’s musical
tablature (DEAD LINK, but thankfully still available through archive.org here
)
A fan by the named of Marshall Boswell compiled guitar tabs. Find them through the archive.org link
or on Fernancdo Higa’s site..

A French Prefab
Sprout site
A French fan by the name of Jean Francois Le Douarin has created a well-done
site for those who prefer French, “L’univers de Prefab Sprout.” He kindly asked
if he could use images and material from my site and I was pleased to agree.
(Later, Jean Francois was able to help me restore this site when my original
ISP’s web server crashed; I was able to obtain many of my lost images from him
and his site...merci JF!). He also has an “email group” which is mostly in
French but English is welcomed. I don’t know how active it is.
·
The Prefab
Sprout Songbook
This is one place where to get album
lyrics if you need them, (since none were provided for Steve
McQueen/Two Wheels Good). This site even has a way to make cassette tape
labels!(?) Hasn’t been updated for
a long time.
·
Martin McAloon’s
non-Prefab Sprout site (DEAD LINK)
Martin is/was up to something else besides Prefab Sprout, called “Jazzblow.”
· A myspace account for Chopper Harris Martin is managing Chopper Harris, who cites the Sprouts as an influence.
·
“Appetite” (DEAD
LINK, but here
it is at Archive.org)
This was the first significant Sprout site on the web; it was also one of the
first to go inactive. Its self-description as “official” was inaccurate since
it was truly a fan-created site. You could actually see my entry in the guest
book where I indicate I was just learning HTML and had just posted a discography—the
first piece of this site.
