Prefab Sprout and Michael Jordan -- the TRUTH REVEALED!

Return to the SproutFacts page.

In 1990, the English pop group Prefab Sprout, led by singer/songwriter Paddy McAloon, released the album "Jordan: The Comeback." The album contained 19 songs, considered at the time to be a series of tales involving a Howard Hughes-meets-Elvis character, and as well as some religious-themed music. While it received superb reviews and moderate success, for most of the world, both the album and the band languished in obscurity.

It was not until the New Millenium that a prominent Prefab Sprout Researcher, Chris Wirtalla, unlocked the astonishing secret code of Paddy McAloon and Prefab Sprout. This is how he first reported his findings, January 11, 2000:

"I was thinking today just how different Jordan: The Comeback might have turned out if Paddy had written it in the mid-nineties. An additional theme to add to the mix: Michael Jordan, wallowing in a failed minor-league baseball career, makes a comeback to the NBA and ultimately reaches the promised land again."

As happens with many shocking discoveries, Chris got it a bit backwards at first: Paddy HAD added Michael Jordan to the mix --- but back in 1990. The secret was out: Paddy McAloon was the Nostradamus of the 20th Century. It was soon revealed that much of his writing was dedicated to predicting the rise and fall and comeback of Michael Jordan -- the latter two events which would not occur for a few years AFTER "Jordan:The Comback" was released! Once the secret was unlocked for all to see, individuals from around the world were able to contribute countless examples from "Jordan:The Comeback" and even earlier albums that clearly predicted the life of (now former) Chicago Bulls basketball superstar Michael Jordan.

More hidden predictions are being identified every day; submit any of your findings so they can be further documented here.

Here are some of the other amazing connections between Prefab Sprout's 1990 album, "Jordan:The Comeback" and Michael Jordan:

·         In the song "Michael" the opening lines are: "All the jobs I ever held, positions I have known, the one I was a fool to leave was, right hand to the throne" --- which clearly refers to Michael's regret about leaving a championship team.

·         Michael Jordan often wore a scarlet red jersey and played in many night games --- another song on the Jordan album is titled "Scarlet Nights."

·         In one of the songs ("Moondog") a mythical performer has only "one place left to play." This was on the moon, in space --- after his career ended, Michael Jordan had only one place left to play basketball, in the movie "Space Jam."

·         After Michael Jordan left the Bulls, many of the other stars of the team and even their stellar coach, left --- "We Let the Stars Go" is another song on the Jordan album.

·         Michael Jordan is an African American --- the album contains the song: "Doo Wop in Harlem," a place which is historically associated with African Americans.

But wait, there are even earlier clues ALL WRITTEN LONG BEFORE MICHAEL JORDAN WAS FAMOUS!!!!:

·         Michael Jordan doesn't play basketball now --- Prefab Sprout has a song, "I Never Play Basketball Now."

·         In the song "Cruel," Paddy McAloon wrote: "There is no Chicago urban blues, more heartfelt than my lament for you" --- clearly predicting the Bulls' fans heartache at Michael Jordan's departure.

·         In the song "Moving the River" Prefab Sprout sing about "money for jam" --- Michael Jordan made money for jam(ming) a ball through a hoop.

·         Michael Jordan and the Bulls used to travel on the road to play "away" games --- Prefab Sprout has a song "'til the Cows Come Home" (note: it is well known that psychic predicting is NOT an exact science! Besides: cows, bulls -- how could Prefab Sprout know the difference?)

·         Michael Jordan is bald --- Prefab Sprout has a song called "Wigs."

But what does the future hold?

In 1997, Prefab Sprout released a new album of predictions called "Andromeda Heights." Do some of the songs tell us what lies ahead for Michael Jordan?

·         Does the song "The Fifth Horseman" suggest Michael Jordan will become a parody of himself and end up playing in five-man "Donkey Basketball" games at charity events????

Time will tell!
